Analysis of websites for LEARNING AND TEACHING IN THE WEB 2.0 ENVIRONMENT

5. Web 2.0: what is it and how can it apply to teaching and teacher...

This article was written and presented by Rick Voithofer from The Ohio State University and Presented at the American Educational Research Association Conference in April 2007.

It is an excellent document on information for using Web 2.0 for teaching and learning. Perhaps what is most useful is its long glossary of terms explaining jargon like 'blogs', 'podcasts', 'wikis', 'tags', 'folksononmy', etc.

It also gives a list of websites underspecific categories such as 'social software' (e.g. myspace/facebook), 'social bookmarking ' (e.g. del.icio.us/youtube), and 'collaborative writing' (e.g. google). THIS WOULD BE A GREAT ARTICLE TO GUIDE PARENTS TO FOR THE GROUP PROJECT WE ARE CREATING WHICH REQUIRES THEIR PARTICIPATION.

The article also gives implications and examples of using Web 2.0. I highly recommend this article as a source for educators who are begining to learn themselves before teaching others about Web 2.0.

6. Interesting example of how to use del.icio.us effectively

This del.icio.us site contains a long list of websites that are to do primarily with education and Web 2.0. The first page you enter gives a list of topics and a link from the name of a person who has compiled sites that relate to their chosen subject.

The very basic information that is given in the description of each site makes it a little hard to know which one is most suitable for the information you need. One has to try out and read each site before they find what they need. NOT FOR THOSE WHO ARE SHORT OF TIME. Also, most of the site listed are for blogs so the information may not be completely accuirate. I think the best sites to explore are the ones that give links to articles.

This del.icio.us site gives a large amount of links to sites relating to education through Web 2.0
